Excerpt from Daily Herald, September 3, 2004:

    Lake County towns win awards

    Posted Friday, September 03, 2004

"Three Lake County communities and several others in the Northwest suburbs have been selected to receive the 2004 Governor's Home Town Award for exemplary volunteer efforts.

"Hawthorn Woods, Lake Zurich and Wauconda are among the winners..."

"...Wauconda earned its award for the efforts of United Partnership for a Better Community, a group of about 15 to 20 residents who meet once a month to improve the quality of life in the town.

The group has hosted a family safety day for bike, fire and home safety, formed a cultural diversity group and started a community calendar through the Wauconda Public Library.

"This is great for Wauconda," said Nancy Burton, a board member with the group. "People should realize this partnership is about interesting volunteers, and we've seen results from our meetings."

"The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will give out 37 Governor's Home Town Awards for 2004 during a Nov. 10 banquet in Springfield. Awards are given in four categories: youth, veterans, senior and general..."

Daily Herald staff writer Sara Faiwell contributed to this report.
